This is a photograph I took of some very interesting capped mushrooms or fungi on a tree. It was either a poplar or a birch tree. It has interesting shapes and textures but is not edible.
I can't help it. I wanted to call this photograph “Fun Guy.” Laughter is the best medicine...
Anyway, according to Wikipedia, Hoof Fungus or “Fomes fomentarius is a species of fungal plant pathogen found in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. The species produces very large polypore fruit bodies which are shaped like a horse's hoof and vary in colour from a silvery grey to almost black, though they are normally brown.”
