Artist's Description
This is the very first photo I took and saved with my new digital camera. Although they are aging, they are still beautiful. Since they are cut and not potted by the florist shop, they only last so long. As they are perennial, they would have grown indefinitely according to their growth period and pattern and timelines if given the chance.
According to Wikipedia: "The tulip is a perennial, bulbous plant with showy flowers in the genus Tulipa, of which up to 109 specie have been described and which belongs to the family Liliaceae.[2] The genus's native range extends from as far west as Southern Europe, Anatolia (Turkey), Israel, Palestine, North Africa, and Iran to the Northwest of China. The tulip's centre of diversity is in the Pamir, Hindu Kush, and Tien Shan mountains. A number of species and many hybrid cultivars are grown in gardens, as potted plants, or to be displayed as fresh-cut flowers. Most cultivars of tulip are derived from Tulipa gesneriana."
About Mary Mikawoz
Mary Mikawoz is a Canadian of Polish descent who follows in the footsteps of a number of artists and photographers in the family. She has studied photography and art from places like Champlain College in Montreal to Algonquin College in Ottawa to the Art Gallery School in Winnipeg. Mary graduated from the University of Manitoba and Red River College. When it comes to photography, Mary feels as if she is inspired by God or the Universe. It is as if she is meant to "capture this moment in time." Otherwise, she takes images that have nice compositions or from points of view that other people might not normally look at.
